Swift Action

Throughout the week on our Facebook group we are going to raise awareness of this wonderful bird, explore where our local swifts are and in what number and then develop a plan of how we can help their numbers to increase over the coming years. We need to create as many nest sites as we can and make sure that our gardens and green spaces encourage insect populations as a food source for the swifts. If you would like to know more about how you can help, email us at fordingbridgegreenerliving@gmail.com

You can find out more about swifts by going to different websites and below are just a few. You can also read more detail about the history of the swift and conservation efforts by reading the wonderful book ‘Swifts and Us’ by Sarah Gibson.

Ridan Composter

We had our third batch of compost from the Ridan. Its great to have such positive feedback on the quality. We hope you are enjoying using this amazing resource. All is going well with the Ridan and we anticipate lots more lovely locally produced compost in the future.

Recycling Shed

The community recycling shed is located at the side of St.Mary’s Church Hall in Church Street. You can drop off items at our shed that cannot be easily recycled through curb side collections.

We are still finding things left in the shed where we don’t have either a box for or a way of recycling them. These items go into our black sacks.  Scrunchy items that we don’t have a box for can go to Coop Fordingbridge.

Aluminium Foil and Containers: This is for the scrunchy foil items (not aluminium tins that can go into the NFDC sacks.) Flan dishes, foil sheets, Take-away containers. Please clean them first and squash them down so more can fit into the box. If it scrunches and stays scrunched, then we can take it. If it opens up again (like sweet wrappers do) then please don’t put it in this box.
Biscuit and Cake Wrappers: Think BAKED goods and you won’t go far wrong.
Blister Medicine Packs: We have now resumed collection of blister packs. Please put ALL blister packs in here (the plastic/foil mix and the completely aluminium ones.) Please make sure all medicines have been removed.

Community Garden

On the 6th August we will be hosting our ‘Community Build and Information Day’ as part of the Community Garden Project.

This will be a joint day with the Avon Valley Shed where we will be constructing the shed kindly donated by Fordingbridge Town Council and building the raised planters from reclaimed wood and pallets (thank you to all those who donated including Elliotts!).
This day will also provide an opportunity for local organisations and community members to find out more about the Community Garden project and how to be involved when it is up and running.

We will be there from 10:00 until 15:00.

If you have any useful tools which can help us construct planters and raised beds then please bring them along!

If you have any questions or queries then please email fbridgecommunitygarden@outlook.com
